Vaishno Devi

“We all are human, with a common goal to be happy”.

Vaishno Devi Mandir is a famous Hindu temple. It is the home of Vaishno Devi Mata, who is believed to be the incarnation of the Hindu goddess, Durga Mata. It is located at the Trikuta Mountains in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Katra,a small town in J&K, is the base station. The temple is 13.5 km from there. One can walk all the way ahead, or take ponies, or get into ‘paalkhis’, operated by 4 persons. Helicopter services are also available up to Sanjichhat, which is 9.5 km from Katra.

It was our first family trip to that Mandir. To have the best experience, we decided to try out all the options available. We took a helicopter ride in the morning to reach Sanjichhat, and walked the remaining distance. After having darshan of mataji, we walked half way down, and then hired ponies and paalkhis to get back to the hotel.

We started our journey at around 8:00 AM in the morning and got back by 12:00 midnight, the same day. Those sixteen hours were magical.

I could relate that journey to our journey of life. As we were walking our way ahead towards the temple along with thousands of other people, I noticed, everyone was walking at their own pace.

Every individual had made their own decision. Few preferred stairs to pathways. Few intentionally chose the longer route instead of taking any shortcuts. Few decided to take frequent breaks in between to experience the beauty around. Few had a goal to walk straight and then take rest at the top. Everyone had a different story. But finally they would reach.

There was no competition; instead everyone was helping and motivating each other. Everyone was singing and dancing in joy, sharing their stories, food and laughter with each other.

When I sat down to think what made it possible, an insight came.

May be it’s because we all had one goal. To get the darshan of Mataji.

We all had one single designation. Devotee of Mataji, irrespective of our caste, skin color, social status, education, etc.

We all knew, sooner or later, we would also have the same darshan. We all knew, there is no going back and we will surely reach to the top.

Isn’t the same principle applicable to our life? We all have our own story and our own journey to fulfil. Aren’t we all having a single goal in our life, and that is to be happy?

Few people had started earlier, taking the path and decisions that made them reach their goal earlier. Few are still stuck in the way, finding their way ahead. Many have not started yet, and are in the planning phase. And yet there are few, who don’t fall under any of these. It’s completely ok to be at any stage. Indeed, this is what makes life beautiful.

At the end, we all are human beings with a single goal to be happy. Let’s help and motivate each other to move forward. Let’s look beyond caste, colour, success and status. Let’s not judge the ones, we feel are lagging behind in life. We don’t know their journey and story. And how does it matter anyway? No matter where we are today, no matter how unfair life seems today, and no matter what people are saying, we will all reach the goal one day.

So please relax and enjoy the moment.

Thank you.
